The same as any true racing Kiwi was, I was bred into racing with my late grandfather, Ian Signal — a great man and stud master, accredited breeder, owner & trainer of Johnny Cash, a Champion Galloper of the 1960’s & 70’s. Johnny Cash was winner of the 1969 Waikato Gold Cup and to this day holds the Australasian record for a mile and a half. I was the granddaughter that the “bug” was bred into. It was inevitable at least one of his children would continue his path with a passion for thoroughbred racing. That child was none other than my mum, Joy Signal, who went on to become Joy Robinson and was well respected as Champion trainer Roger James’ right-hand lady for 20-25 years.
Thanks to my Mum & Dad my childhood weekend memories always comprised of race meeting after race meeting; and dinner and table conversations were laced with racing news, breeding information and stable operations. Mum had the same natural ability and ease with horses as the way she handled people; befriending all owners and clients she met. Her natural love of horses and people alike ensured she was always running a well-oiled operation, syndication and all finances.
As an infant my parents trained greyhounds and not long after began racing horses. They raced many top horses including Group 1 and multiple Stakes winner Pasta Post as well as Group 1 1000 Guineas & Captain Cook Stakes winner Elevenses. In my opinion my Mum’s proudest moment was when she decided to purchase Pristino, a More Than Ready mare, from public auction. Already a shareholder in the racing syndicate trained by Roger James, Mum knew she had a lot going for her: she was well bred and had shown ability, despite injury. Pristino’s fourth foal, Dijon Bleu (ex Burgundy) went on to become the 2018 Champion NZB 3YO Filly of the Year, despite injury stopping her racing career before the end of the season. And so Mum’s legacy continues…
An internationally recognised Chartered Accountant by profession, followed by a 10-year overseas hiatus as a successful International Touring DJ — a more creative and adventurous path to my original accounting and strategic management education — I continued to gather awards and play music at the top level throughout New Zealand, Australia, Asia and the Middle East. Landing back on NZ soil after leaving the exclusive 5-star Kempinski hotel in Qatar I was immediately reminded of the things I missed and loved the most in NZ. One of those things is thoroughbred racing. The thrill and excitement that horse racing gives you is palpable; the ability to bring people together and create memories that last well beyond a race, season or lifetime is what is truly special. Through putting ownership groups together, we make this easily accessible and combined with our unique and meticulous thoroughbred selection process, we take winning from a possibility to a probability.
It is this formula that enables our clients to achieve not only the thrill and excitement of watching their horse race — and win — but also the opportunity to meet new people, develop business relationships and create lifelong memories.

THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE IT SPECIAL
Melissa has a great eye for a horse.
I have been absolutely delighted with the quality of NZ tried horses Melissa has selected for my clients, we have a lot to look forward to in the future.
Melissa will make an outstranding horse syndicator and be a huge asset to NZ racing.
It's been a lifetime ambition of mine to have an interest in a racehorse (or three). But I never really knew how to go about it — until I stumbled across The Frac Club. It honestly felt like the stars had aligned. The ease of getting involved in ownership was incredible, thanks to the expertise of Melissa who took all the hassle out of the admin — something that had always put me off in the past. Four months in, & I'm still just as excited as day 1. The communication, the community, & the professional yet fun atmosphere Melissa has created is second to none. It's a slick, well-run operation with a genuinely welcoming vibe. I've got to say — I'm having the time of my life. Their tagline couldn't be more accurate: 'A fraction of the cost, all the fun' I even gifted my partner some shares for her birthday. She rolled her eyes at first... but now she's as hooked as I am. Win-win!"
I had been involved in a racing syndicate previously & liked what I saw on Facebook with The Frac Club, initially just with Zormella. The opportunity to buy shares in numerous good horses, with a minimal one-time payment per share & no ongoing monthly payments (unlike standard syndicates) was attractive & intriguing. All Frac Owners can share the thrill of ownership, no matter how tiny their % & as Frac (fractional) ownership, many will have very tiny shares at minimal expense. After becoming firmly involved, I have appreciated the very regular feedback & communications from Melissa about our horses. I have heard other owners also talk positively of her communications & enthusiasm. She is passionate to create an ownership family giving everyone an ownership opportunity & I have huge confidence in her & the team. One key factor in my becoming involved was the particular attention Melissa has paid to the exceptional breeding of our equine family. Exceptional sires of our horses all positioned with top trainers of our Frac Club horses. Plus very good jumpers! It would be hard not to be excited by all these horses & trainer names with highly anticipated future successes.
We are enjoying being involved in the FRAC Club. A fraction of the cost for 100% of the thrills. With the exciting jumper Jesko this winter and the talented Zormella set to return in the spring there is plenty to look forward to. The communication is superb and the race days have been fun events for owners. An excellent concept
I joined the FRAC Club in 2024 and it’s the best investment I have ever made in racing. I receive regular updates on the progress of the horse and bonus weekly betting tips by email. The FRAC Club makes you really feel part of the FRAC family. I have been to several events on courses across New Zealand and it’s a fantastic day out. I have since invested in another horse with the club. If you love racing, buying a share is well worth it. It’s not just a share in a horse, it’s a share in a whole racing experience that you won’t regret.
I have been a member of the Frac Club from its beginning and thoroughly recommend people becoming involved with Melissa’s concept. The Frac Club is very well organised and the communication excellent. The thrill of being with fellow Syndicate members and watching your horse race and win is something that will stay with you forever. Join now and experience the buzz and excitement of owning a racehorse.
The Frac Club is the perfect mixture of fun and horse ownership with great communication and updates on their horses’ progress. I have been thrilled to be part of a winning team but more importantly meeting new people and having a great time on race days.
So glad to find the Frac Club. At first I thought it must have been too good to be true as a one-off price of $195 to own a share in a horse syndicate. Having previously looked at syndication wanting $1,000s of dollars, this suited me best. Total enjoyment with top horses, top staff, and top people in the Frac Club.
We have found our association with the FRAC CLUB NZ to be a truly rewarding adventure, encompassing the enjoyment of high calibre thoroughbred winners, participation in Champions Day, and even the success of Steeplechase Cup winners! From day one the flow of relevant information has been superb with an innovative approach to racing ownership. For a small investment in the FRAC CLUB NZ we have experienced all the excitement and action any Kiwi racing enthusiast could ask for. The racehorses are carefully selected and raced accordingly, giving us the thrill of a lifetime and the ownership privileges at an affordable price. Owners are regularly kept informed of how things are going with the horses they are involved in and all future events. It is wonderful that we have made so many new friends who share our enthusiasm for racing, and the social element of supporting our horses enhances the enjoyment. We highly recommend FRAC CLUB NZ to anyone seeking to delve into racing ownership and we are sure, like us, you will enjoy a truly exceptional experience.
FRAC Club Membership, has given me an opportunity, despite having such a small share, to feel like an actual racehorse owner. I currently have a FRAC shares in 6 racehorses, all at different stages of their careers and different disciplines. The regular updates from trainers via Melissa are always welcomed and very informative. I highly recommend FRAC Club shares to satisfy that lifelong dream of being involved in Racehorse ownership. Simply put, I couldn’t afford to be involved in any other way. Thanks FRAC I am really enjoying it.
